Steam have replied!!

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

If you are running in Windows Vista or Windows 7, please completely exit Steam, and right-click on the shortcut which you use to launch Steam and select "Run as Administrator."

If you are running in Windows XP, take the following steps:

1) Exit Steam.
2) Go to the "Start" menu, select "Run", type "regedit" and click "OK".
3) Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\VALVE
4) Right click and select "Permissions"
5) Check the "Allow" boxes for "Admin" and "System" for both "Full control" and "Read".

The remaining steps apply to *all* versions of Windows.

Then, verify the game's files at least once:

NOTE: There may be files that fail to validate. This is normal and can be ignored.


If the issue persists, you may also need to manually run secondary installers required by this game.

First, exit Steam entirely.

Please download and install the latest DirectX update, available here:

Also, please download and install the latest version of PhysX, available here:

Go to C:\Program Files\Steam (or the Steam directory that was specified during installation).
Locate ClientRegistry.blob and rename this file to ClientRegistryOld.blob
Restart Steam to allow the file to be recreated.

This actually fixes a lot of things on Steam, I highly suggest this, I have done it many times before.

Not worked

i might just completly re-install steam and see where that gets me

Tried everything and nothing seems to work

just deleted everything and completely re-installed steam and still the same problem.

I also tried to play gmod from my other computer, i got on the server for about a minute before it crashed. The computer is simply not powerful enough.

Beginning to wonder if i'm ever going to get on fearless or even Garry's mod again

really thats odd, have you tried to just wait?

usally when gmod starts "freezing" on start up, it means its downloading content from games.

try leaving gmod on for a hour or so and just take a cup of tea and watch a movie.

Hmmm...try going to your addons file and delete everything in it,might be something you dkwnloaded
