I had the same problem with my old graphics card, It's because your card does not have enough memory.
My old card was a NVIDIA GeForce (Can't remember the series) only had 512mb memory, my screen would do the same and I had to restart. I upgraded to my new one with 1GB of memory, everything works fine.
