1. I had a problem crashing, but it was only related to console issues. Try disableing "Enable Developer Console" in your
Options > Keyboard > Advanced

2. Alternatively, get a vanilla file of gmod. As in go to
Steam > Library > Garry's Mod > Properties > Delete Local Game Content

Then try to download and follow specific instructions on where the map files need to go. Make sure you are unzipping the files and putting them in their respectful folder as SoulRipper's post will explain to you in the Downloads page.

3. More alternatively try going to the gamepad on the bottom right of the main Gmod menu and check-boxing all of the Valve games you own to add their repositories to your Gmod launch parameters, meaning that it will load content compatible with Gmod from those Valve titles.

After enableing all of the Valve titles please launch the other games such as Counter Strike: Source, Half Life 2, and other Vavle titles you checked im the boxes, launch it, until it gets to the main menu then exit. Do this for each game that you have that is Gmod compatible.
