what is a ping? whats good high or low?

you want it low, it's basically your connection to the server.
High means a lot of lag, low means a smooth experience. Lead by example.

Basically, ping allows the server to check that an IP address exists and can accept requests. It sends a message to the IP, and waits for a reply, a little bit like a radar. The number you see is the time in MS that it takes for the reply to arrive.
