HOW TO: Make an unban request (UBR)
#1
Information
I've been banned, now what?

In most cases, if you have been banned it was due to breakage of one of our rules or terms and conditions. However, if you believe that the staff member has made a genuine mistake and you do not deserve a ban, this is the section of the forums to dispute your ban. If this sounds like your situation, please continue reading.

Introduction

This is a step-by-step guide explaining how to make a valid unban request.

To efficiently review all individual cases and maintain regularity across the team, we have a protocol, which you need to know and follow.

Rules

We have made some rules for unban requests, please read them first.
  1. You are only allowed to write in an unban request thread when you are:
    a) The banned person
    b) A witness or in any other crucial relation to the unban request

Any other replies like "Omg that guy should be banned." are backseat moderation and will result in a forum warning.

The reason we don't want everybody to post in the unban threads is because the threads will become an enormous mess.

  2. Keep your request objective and prevent strong language.

  3. Do not write an unban request if you know you've broken the rules.

  4. You may only appeal a ban up to a month after the bans expiration date. Past that, most knowledge of the situation is either lost
or tainted, so the final conclusion will be that everything in the ban reason is factual after a month beyond expiration. The only exception to this is if you have clear evidence to prove your innocence.

  5. Staff must either conclude or ask for further information within 10 days of the initial unban request post (OP). If not - unban request is approved and ban removed from your record. Within this time, staff are expected to review the case, contact anyone involved and begin the investigation. If the information provided within the unban request is sufficient, the case can be decided upon. If further input is needed from the player, the staff member investigating the case must ask for further information.
b)If staff replies asking for further information from the player making the unban request, they must provide it within 7 days. If the player does not reply within those 7 days the unban request is denied.
c)If the player successfully provides staff information to their request, staff have 7 days to either conclude or ask for further information else your unban request will be Approved and ban removed from record.

6b and 6c loop until the case is resolved.

  6. Fabricating or tampering with evidence with intent to mislead, and providing false statements is under zero tolerance - committing such violations will lead to a lengthy forum ban.
  7. The player requesting an unban must be given at least one further response to the admins initial reply. The only exception to this is if the UBR is very clearly a troll UBR.

How to make an unban request

Check out your ban first, at the ban page. This will show your ban ID, the reason why you are banned and which staff member has banned you.

Use the form when posting to give us a fast and quick summary of your ban. You will have to use this, otherwise, your unban request will be denied instantly.

Please make sure that your unban request contains as much useful information as possible.
Describe exactly and in detail what happened, when and how, so not only you and the staff member who banned you know what happened but also other staff members and/or witnesses.

What to do when your request was denied

If your request has been denied, there are not many options left. In most cases, you would have to accept your punishment and sit the ban out.
It would be a good idea to read the rules again, to get more familiar with them, or you could read the role-play guides.

Below are the time frames in which ban appeals will be taken into consideration. Posting a ban appeal that does not fit into the below time frames will result in the appeal being immediately denied and a warning/ban issued to your account.
  • Ban time under 1 week: A second unban request is not allowed.
  • Ban time of 1 week or more: You are allowed to post a second unban request 1 week after the denial.
  • Ban time of 1 month or more: You are allowed to post a second unban request 2 weeks after the denial.
  • Ban time of 3 months or more: You are allowed to post a second unban request 2 weeks after the first denial, and a third unban request after 8 weeks of the second denial.
  • Ban time of 1 year or more: You are allowed to post an unban request 3 months after the first denial, then every 8 months after the previous unban denials.
  • A Permanent ban cannot be disputed unless solid evidence is provided proving your innocence.

Permanent bans really mean forever, which means you will never be unbanned.
Permanent bans are reserved for ToS. Any ban greater than BanID: 79180 will be affected by this original policy.
This means any permanent ban before this ID does have a chance of redemption, considering they haven't broken ToS, if we feel they have been banned long enough, are sincere, or deserve it. (Case-by-case basis).

Clarified rule 6 and also made it so that players must post within 7 days after staff replies or else their request will be denied.

This will take effect for unban requests made from the 1st of April, 2016.

Rule 6 further clarified to fix exploit.

It was written in a way where users could exploit the system to get their unban request approved.

Staff reply -> User can reply within 7 days.
User reply -> Staff can reply within 7 days.

Rule 6 clarified again.

Players must post within 7 days after staff replies (in case staff requests further information) or else their request will be denied.
If staff neither post any requests for additional information from the player, nor make a resolution within 7 days of the UBR being posted then it is automatically approved.

Updated policy on Permanent bans. Please see bottom of OP.

Added 'First of all, remember to use the template and complete it to it's full extent (later explained), if you are not using the template, your unban request will get denied.'
