How is he the sacrificial lamb for the lack of follow up to the major updates, when he worked his ass off making sure we actually got the first set of updates out in the first place?

If you're smart, you'll see that your comment simply refuted everything that anybody is criticizing him for.
Because he can't handle criticism, he can't understand that what he's done is wrong, or at least improper from most perspectives. 
And when you can't accept criticism as the head developer and you're doing the most effort well... You've just proved my point.
