Indeed, yesterday my laptop crashed 3 times while I was playing. (well, there was no real rp cuz there were 2 and at a point 4 people ingame.) I felt at the place where I suppose that my CPU is located and I could fry an egg on that place (>100°C). I doubt that this was the reason of the controlled shutdown cuz it tends to do this as well when it does nothing.
But the point is, even my gfx card can handle it. It's a ATI Radeon HD 3470.
It lags just a bit more then in the v2d server tough.
