Okay, I'm upgrading my computer in October and was wondering if this would work.
I saw that AMD has some decent APU's that can run games, so I was thinking about buying the A10-5800k instead of the FX 6300 and running a GTX 770 along with it. Will that graphics card disable the graphics on the APU and only let the GTX 770 run games? I just don't want to buy it and then graphics get disabled by the dedicated graphics card.

It won't matter. The APU in it won't help if you're running a GPU. The only time the APU is better is if you're going to run without a graphics card.

It's not possible to run both integrated graphics with external graphics card, especially ATI and NVIDIA ones. Therefore, probably your graphics on APU will remain disabled or inactive. Another thing, AMD has now really cheap both GPU and CPU, so i would buy some amd cpu (something from fx series would be nice too) and ati card. It will run fine. Remember that your CPU should make 100% use of GPU and vice-versa.
