Try go onto a v4b1 singleplayer game and join Fearless after you join your singleplayer game.
Worked for me a few times.

I know of two approaches, the first one to try is to change your launch options of gmod (DirectX level) https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=1216-JMTZ-0860. I have tried this in the past and it made no real difference for me but it is always worth trying the easiest option first.
The other thing you can try is bootcamping windows onto your mac, most of the people that do play Gmod on mac do this. https://steamcommunity.com/app/4000/discussions/1/558752450650929002/?ctp=2
