Okay, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysMod\sourceengine\scripts and delete game_sounds_manifest.txt then open up gmod and try it again

It still does not play the right ambience sounds, I've just tried on V4D and it plays the weird monster sounds. I do have snowreds' fix' for it and yet it still does not work. I have also tried little town and that does not work either.

Okay, here's two other methods.
Delete all the "scripts" folders from you addons files.
Or,
Delete the sounds folder
Or,
Uninstall Gmod, go to your gmod folder and delete it, then reinstall it.

I reinstalled my game and joined the server. The old sounds are back and its really nice!
