[Solved] Crash/freeze retrieving server info - Empyrez - 01-13-2017
i've been having a problem for like 3 months now and i still don't know how to fix it.
when i try to join one of the Fl cityRP servers, it freezes on ''retrieving server info'' for around 1 minute, then the game crashes without an error and i see my desktop.
please help.

Things that might work:
- Turn off or uninstall all addonds not needed for the Server.
- Open the Options in GMod (Main menu) go to Multiplayer and change the last Option to "Allow all custom files from server"
- Create a start option named "-autoconfig".

Did you install the content already?
Because if not, it might work to download and install the content manually:

And if everything fails, reinstall all the content needed for the server and make sure you got the HL2 and CS:S content so you wont get any errors.

It might not work for you, but I had a similar problem before and I changed over to window mode.
It's also a lot more comfortable and easier to use if you have 2 screens.
Chances are one of DreeBott's answers will work though.

Another great fix for most problems with Garry's Mod is this:
1. Right click your Garry's Mod in your steam library
2. Click properties
3. Local Files
4. "Verify Integrity of Game Cache"

I've got the same issue myself, never found a solution. I've had the problem for some years, my only way to connect is to first launch a singleplayer game then connect to FearlessRP servers.
Might work for you also?
