RE: Inactive staff team - Captain Barry - 08-24-2016

We've got a real problem to discuss here, let's not have it degrade into an argument guys.

RE: Inactive staff team - Eclipze - 08-24-2016

Alot of people are bringing up that admins should be allowed to RP and ignore @ calls but couldnt they just stop for the moment and actually answer that call but sadly stopping the RP for a few minutes, thats atleast what Lesanka did and apparently it worked fine.

RE: Inactive staff team - Zecon - 08-24-2016

Okay I don't mind staff inactivity when it is for a reason like "vacation" or "busy week at work", but honestly it's no lie that people take advantage of this, now I'm just gonna speak off personal experiences of when I was on the team so don't attack me if this doesn't apply now.

The first time staff are inactive it'll be for legit reasons and that's fair enough, everyone has things to do in life. However, when they start to lose motivation and that 'hype' so to speak of being a staff member dies down, things start to change. They'll be on the server less and less and when they are, they'll either be RPing and ignoring @ calls, sitting afk or just flying around with phase active and answering the odd @ call now and then.

Then when they become completely inactive again, they'll use the same excuse "busy week at work", however this time it looks a lot more suspicious, since more likely than not they'll be playing other steam games, which as you know is publicly visible, but when you question them about it they'll just be like "ohh I'm not in the mood to administrate atm".

And then the cycle continues, someone gets promoted to staff, extremely active for a few weeks/months, starts to lose motivation, uses excuses for inactivity, becomes extremely inactive.

I also agree with Fultz that with inactive SA's as well, this means nothing is done about this which is bad in itself.

Now I'm not saying I was some 'Guardian Angel' on the staff team, I was guilty of doing some of these things myself, however I always tried to drag myself on the server every couple of days even if it was only for an hour or two because I was aware that being on the staff team was a responsibility that came with a certain expectation that you had to live up to.

Now as far as RPing as a staff member is concerned, it's really bloody difficult, in my year of being a staff member on FL I can only remember actually creating 3 RP's where I was RPing and not just spectating and keeping an eye on things as staff, that was mine and Wood's giant club, the Monorail and Winterfest back in Jan 15, and even during these events I responded to @ calls that came through to the best of my ability, as I felt I was doing a shitty job as an administrator if I didn't.

I don't mind it when staff RP but there's one thing that if you're thinking that you wanna become staff one day you should know, you make sacrifices for the things you can enjoy as a player. Most RP you can't do as @ calls are coming through every minute so you keep getting disturbed, I couldn't contra or grow weed at all as staff because literally EVERY TIME I'd get raided whilst responding to an @ call, your car will probably get stolen a fair few times when you TP back after an @ call, and it's hard to even walk around on the streets normally and just see what's going on as there's always arselicks who will try and just follow you round to RP and get a point or whatever.

This means that most of your time as staff you're phased no-clipping through the world to see what's going on and getting the same repetitive @ calls, so of course people lose motivation over time, because staff don't get those same unique and fun experiences all the time like the players do.

I've never actually been staff on FL before, but what you are saying seems legit.

However, my guess goes that if a staff member is flying around. They are "patroling" for rule breakage..? (Correct me if I'm wrong).. Often when I RP, some rule breakage happens, and some times, admins get ahold of it before I even make an @ call. (That being said, the player doing the rule breakage may have been reported via @ previously and then spectated.)

Apparently it did NOT work fine as she resigned with the sole purpose of being able to RP without having to pause it CONSTANTLY.
If you think @ calls come trough only every 5 minutes you're horribly wrong, it'd be one thing if it were like that.

Yea. Admins shouldn't have to stop an RP to respond to an @ call, I can tell that'd be annoying..

Admins should do more admin "business" over RPing though. They should know what they say yes to, when they accept a spot in the staff team.

RE: Inactive staff team - Baskingner - 08-24-2016

A bit of a weird idea but hear me out:

How about creating a team of administrators who work in shifts of 6 months. After those 6 months the staffmembers are thanked for their service and a new staffteam is promoted.

Ofcourse we need a more permanent, experienced SA team who decide about more important decisions like promotions, development and important bans.

While i realize this idea will never be implemented (due to both ethical and unethical reasons) it will solve a lot of problems and complaints the community currently has about how things are run with the current staffteam.

I would like to typ this idea out more, but ill be on my phone for the next 3 days.

I don't start any roleplays if I am the only staff member on at that time. If I'm roleplaying and there is a clog of @ calls then I will usually deal with ones that are needed to be seeing to immediately, as I'm not going to do something small like changing someones car colour if I'm in a middle of a roleplay. Every staff member is different, but I think this is the general attitude most staff members have.
