Number 2 or both. Could also be nice if some sort of charred texture could be applied to the car after its been burning to make it look burnt out? Not sure how nice that would look though, just a thought.

Fire 3 looks good but I think there should be some sort of blackish smoke effect given off the fire (Which won't cause lag)
