I've always wondered, does someone have to be a Teacher before being promoted to staff member?

Have I helped you or am I friendly?

Nope, promotions are hand picked and you can get mod before you get teacher.

No you do not.

There's been plenty of occations where people have been promoted from player to staff.

You don't but the past shows it helps. But in the end of the day it's not mandatory.

Teacher rank is not a gateway to Moderator. I was a normal player that went straight to Moderator.

Saying it is absolutely not at all a gateway to Moderator is just a load of shit.
Barely any teacher applications are made because they'd forever want to remain as a Teacher on the community.
I'd say about 80% of Teacher applicants have applied to have a better chance at getting promoted to Moderator.

No, not all Teachers get promoted to Moderator after a certain timespan.
But it'd be a straight up lie to say it doesn't increase your chances, because it does.

It was a pretty major concern for staff at a certain stage that it was obvious.
Majority of the community figured Teacher was a gateway to Mod, simply because we've promoted so many Teachers to Mod so far.

List of current staff members who were originally Teacher before getting promoted to Moderator:

1. Avgar

2. Ghost

3. MasterNoda

4. Raccoon

5. Reebs

6. Tomo

7. Brikaas

8. Random

Sidenote:

There aren't many previous staff members to note here simply because the Teacher rank was at their time not a thing yet or had only just been created.

As much as you say it increases your chances of becoming a moderator, you know yourself that it's because teachers get noticed more as we have to look at what they are doing. As you say, it's not a gateway to becoming staff, but staff members just tend to notice teachers behavior more than normal players.  It works the other way around too, you may be an excellent teacher but you won't be considered as staff material, however, if you had never been a teacher you could've been considered for a promotion.

A normal user has just as fine odds of becoming a moderator as a teacher do, if you know your shit and help people when they need help, you're more likely to be promoted.
If you are the quiet guy that roleplay by yourself and never interacts with other people your chances of being promoted is slim.

Good hints for being promoted?  Be yourself, don't try to change your personality. If you get promoted you get promoted, if you don't then let it be.

And as of teachers being promoted, true, quite a few of our staff members was teachers before being promoted. We're also quite a few people who've never been teachers before.

Avgar was never Teacher. Just sayin Smile

Anyway, Teachers will not necessarily get moderator but if you notice that many Teachers do get Mod, it is likely because teachers are some of the more trustworthy and knowledgable members of the community, so they may naturally be more suitable for a staff rank.

Teacher does give you a better chance of being promoted to moderator, but in the sense of a stepping stone.

If you receive the role of a teacher in this community, the reason is the staff feel that you are capable of helping people and have a good overall attitude. If this sounds familiar it is because this is the same things they look into their staff members.

It is similar to how it was before the teacher rank was a thing on FL, the only difference between now and then was it was clans that were the stepping stone into the admin team. You would see clans such as the SAA, Fumuku, and Semper Fi have a large amount of players promoted inside of their clan. The reason for this was that was what they were looking for in their potential candidates for the clan. Sociable, rule knowledgeable, and overall good roleplayers. So getting into one of these clans in the respected time they were on the top was your now reality "teachers" because it had the same effect.

So basically yes, being a teacher gives you a better chance at getting a promotion into the staff team, but in the sense that if the admin team feels you would make a good teacher, it also means you could also make a good administrator. But the difference (And to answer your main question) no you do not have to be a teacher before being promoted to staff.
