First, I will suggest you verify the game and see if this happens without the content pack installed as you may have some issues with it, however, this could be a range of problems, so heres a few possibilities;
1. Connection issues; you may want to ask if anyone else experienced the lag spike with you, if not then that rules out this.
2. Graphics issue; does this happen on other games? Crysis? FarCry? If so you may want to check for up to date drivers for your graphics card, visit either Intel, NVIDIA or ATI's webites depending on the graphics card/chip you have.
3. Processor issue; do you random crash on other applications? Internet browser? Other games? If so you may have an isue with your CPU, you may want to either replace it or check for dust in your system that may be clogging up your cooling.
