It's a very simple rule and yet nearly everyone gets it wrong.

You do NOT put an apostrophe in a plural!
"I now own two house's"
"I now own two houses"

If you are writing about ownership, you use an apostrophe!
"Joes Gunshop"
"Joe's Gunshop"

Most famous example - something belonging to a large group.
"The boy's toilets"
"The boys' toilets"

The apostrophe goes before the S if the said object belongs to one person; It goes after the S if said object belongs to a group of nouns.
